At busworld in Brussels from 18–23 October 2019 Valeo will be exhibiting complete system solutions for alternative bus drive concepts. Whether for electric powered mini, city or double-decker buses, this year the company is displaying electric HVAC solutions for all bus sizes and climates at Stand 222 in Hall 2. The air conditioning specialist is celebrating a world first with the REVO-E HP R744 heating and air conditioning system, featuring all-electric and completely environmentally neutral technology.
Valeo REVO-E HP R744: Heating and air conditioning with zero emissions
The new Valeo REVO-E HP R744 is an all-electric emission-free rooftop a/c unit with heat pump function for buses with alternative drives. The environmentally neutral HVAC system operates with the natural coolant R744 (CO2) and guarantees efficient air conditioning and a high heat pump capacity (27 kW at 0°C / 20kW at -10°C) at ambient temperatures of -20°C to +44°C with low energy consumption. The system features a fully automatic mechanism that always selects the correct operating mode and switches from air conditioning to the heat pump or de-icing function. The external heat exchanger ices up in heat pump mode at outside temperatures below 5°C. The fully automatic defrosting function integrated into the system reduces this negative effect and enables the bus to be heated by means of a heat pump even at extremely low outside temperatures.
Valeo Thermo HV: Modular high-voltage heater with infinitely variable control
For the first time Valeo developers have been working on a high-voltage heater for electrobuses that features infinitely variable heat output control by means of an integral control unit. This takes place either by regulating the water outlet temperature or by limiting the maximum heat output or power consumption. With a voltage range of 600–875 Volts the Valeo Thermo HV ensures a constantly high heat output of 12kW. Furthermore, it is CAN-capable and transmits key operating data to the vehicle system using an intelligent diagnostic function.
Valeo E-Cooler BTM: cooling and heating the battery
Besides the field-proven 5kW version, Valeo has now introduced a concept solution with 7–10 kW that is also suitable for high ambient temperatures. The new Valeo E-Cooler cools the battery during the charging or discharging process and during the journey at higher ambient temperatures. Depending on the outside temperature, it cools in two different ways. At temperatures of about 15°C or less, the system uses the low ambient temperature for an energy-saving cooling mode (passive cooling). At higher outside temperatures the E-Cooler automatically switches to an active cooling circuit (active cooling). In addition, it has a heating function and heats the heating circuit as required to bring the sensitive Li-ion batteries up to the right temperature level. The standalone solution with a complete air conditioning and heating circuit, as well as water-carrying components (incl. circulation pump) is modular and can be regulated according to the energy demand, i.e. in order to keep energy consumption as low as possible, the device switches fully automatically between the passive/active cooling and heating functions.
Valeo SPump electric circulation pump family extended to include a 120W version
Valeo has supplemented its latest generation of SPump circulation pumps with a 120W version that is particularly suitable for smaller water circuits. It provides the high performance required for e-bus applications with a flow rate of 3,800l/h at 0.37 bar. The 120W model has 40% fewer individual parts, making it the lightest weight and most compact circulation pump of its kind within the product family.
The Valeo SPump circulation pump with PWM and CAN (interface) versions offers decisive advantages for the customer: Both versions have variable speed control, enabling optimum coordination with the main vehicle system and reducing energy consumption while increasing the vehicle’s range. In addition, an intelligent diagnostic function in the pump sends early warning signals by automatic error detection and transmits key operating data. This makes the pump attractive for all commercial vehicles with hybrid, plugin or electric drive that are reliant on efficient energy management.
